'Would You Date You' lecture found to be Insightful

Thursday night in the Taggart Student Center Ballroom a lecture titled “Would You Date You” was held. The lecture featured Abraham Shreve who is new to the idea of being a motivational speaker.

“We’re just putting the program together right now. Utah State is actually the first one,” Shreve said. “This is something that has kind of evolved over time for me, I’ve been teaching communication classes mostly to married couples and I have a dear friend in the college world who talked to me about maybe talking to college audiences.”

The program consists of Shreve traveling to universities to share a message not only about dating, but about being the person that you want to be.

Alyssa Vanleeuwen, who sought help from Shreve about her own personal dating life, thought that the lecture was great advice for life, not just dating.

“I’m glad we have something like this, it’s embarrassing to admit that you have a problem with dating, but I think we all do and the first step to overcoming a problem is owning up to it. If you’re struggling in dating, or anything really, and you need help just get it, just go or you’re never going to change,” said Vanleeuwen.

Chaise Warr, a student who attended the lecture, had different ideas about what the lecture would consist of.

“I expected it to be a lot more about relationships but it’s more about improving yourself and making sure you like you so the title ‘Would you date yourself’ really works,” Warr said.

“It’s really hard to admit that you suck at dating,” Vanleeuwen said. “Maybe I’m not going to find prince charming, but I learned some things for me, that are going to benefit me and make me happy."
